Make A Weekend Getaway to Camarillo Part of Your Summer Plans (2016)

If you have yet to finalize plans to attend the 29th Annual A Taste of Camarillo Wine, Brew & Food Festival on July 31st or the Wine Auction Gala on July 30th, consider the opportunity to explore the beautiful city of Camarillo by making your attendance at the festival and gala part of a weekend getaway, or if you live close by, a “staycation.”

If you already plan on attending the festival, purchase tickets by end of May 31st to lock in Early Bird discounted prices. Regular prices resume June 1st.

Although the weekend of July 30th-July 31st is a big weekend for wine, if you plan on making your entire weekend all about wine we recommend that you visit this link to the Ventura County Wine Trail. Friday, July 29th
Arrive and get settled at your hotel before heading out for dinner and drinks at one or a couple of the local favorites:

    Adolfo Grill and Daily Bar
    The Adolfo Grill on Daily Drive offers California cuisine with local produce and vendors such as fresh locally grown berries and vegetables – with a Spanish twist. They are connecting people in the Camarillo, Ventura, and Oxnard areas just as their namesake, Adolfo Camarillo, did. Saturday, July 30th
Wake up and have breakfast, try:

    Eggs ‘N’ Things
    A top choice for locals to enjoy a quality breakfast. Open at 7am on weekends, the restaurant provides many of your breakfast favorites such as eggs, pancakes, home style corned beef hash, and omelets. Do not leave without trying their specialty Swedish pancakes.

After breakfast, visit:

    Camarillo Hospice Farmer’s Market
    Open every Saturday, rain or shine from 8am to noon, the Camarillo Certified Farmers Market is a community meeting place where friends, neighbors and strangers shop and socialize. Enjoy seasonal produce from local farmers including fruit and citrus, flowers, food, crafts, and miscellaneous products such as nuts, cheese, olive oils, meats, and more.

    Sterling Hills Golf Club
    If you’re looking for a public course with a private feel, you’ve found it here at Sterling Hills Golf Club. Play on a course designed by world-renowned architect Robert Muir Graves and Damian Pascuzzo. This beautifully manicured course utilizes the natural movement of the land, features four set of tees to challenge players of all abilities.
    Camarillo Springs Golf Course
    Cut in and around the towering rock formations, the course sits at the base of the Conejo Mountain. Come play on a course with beautiful water features and gentle ocean breezes.

When you are ready for lunch, try:

    The Waypoint Café
    Enjoy casual dining at the Waypoint Café at the Camarillo Airport. In a unique setting and whether you are outside on the patio or inside looking out the surrounding windows, you will enjoy great burgers, sandwiches, breakfast and lunches as you watch planes land. Note that during peak breakfast and lunch times there may be a long wait, but the locals will tell you that it would be worth the wait!

After lunch:

    Shop at Camarillo Premium Outlets
    Conveniently located right off of the 101 Freeway, the Camarillo Premium Outlets has 160 stores and features Banana Republic, Coach, Michael Kors, Polo Ralph Lauren, Tory Burch, Tommy Hilfiger and more.
    Visit McGrath Farm and Produce Market
    Visit this Irish American family farm with a rich history dating back to the 1860s and 5 generations. Shop at their roadside farmer’s market for all certified organic fruits and vegetables, pick your own fresh strawberries, or take a farm tour.
    Visit Studio Channel Islands Art Center
    The Blackboard Gallery features rotating exhibits of local and regional fine art from member artists and a gift store with boutique items created by member artists. The exhibit schedule includes invitational solo shows, juried group shows, and themed exhibitions.

In the evening, starting at 5pm, it’s time for A Taste of Camarillo Wine Auction Gala. The Wine Auction Gala kicks off the weekend’s festivities with an Old West Hoedown in the Red Barn at the historic Adolfo Camarillo Ranch. Dine on a variety of delicious appetizers, entrees, and desserts. Enjoy wine from this year’s Official “A Taste of Camarillo” Winery, Opolo Vineyards, champagne, and select craft beers. A silent auction will be open with fine wines and gift items to bid on. The after-dinner live auction will feature unique wines, wine and gourmet dining experiences, travel packages, and more. Live country music will get your boots tapping on the dance floor.

Sunday, July 31st
Have breakfast at:

    Old New York Deli
    A fast, casual restaurant, deli & bakery located in Camarillo since 1994. Enjoy bagels, eggs, omelets, and more delicious food made and baked from scratch using only the finest ingredients available.

Arrive early to A Taste of Camarillo Wine, Brew & Food Festival and get in line to get in at 1pm (or noon if VIP). Spend an afternoon sampling fine wines, craft beers, and gourmet food. Held on the grounds of the historic Adolfo Camarillo Ranch, the ranch will be transformed overnight into the “Meadowlark Ranch” during the time of the Old West. Guests will enjoy live performances by the popular band, Caught Red Handed, while boot scoot’n on the dance floor to country western music. The special “VIP Lark Saloon” will be open for VIP guests to experience exclusive wines, brew and food. The “Wet Your Whistle Watering Hole” will serve craft beers to all guests. A silent auction and boutique shopping will enhance the afternoon while guests visit with winemakers, brew masters and local chefs.

The festival ends at 4pm but if you are still hungry after the festival, have your designated driver take you to Topper’s Pizza Place for a fun, casual dinner. And if you want to continue the fun, order a pitcher of 805 Beer.
